Leather Handles - 1 inch wide in natural veg

Sold out

These Australian leather handles are the perfect way to finish your bag project. Veg leather is tanned using tannins extracted from plant material such as tree bark. It is the oldest known method and produces  a supple leather in a 'blonde' color, with the exact shade depending on the mix of materials and the color of the skin.

They are strong and  durable, and at 2mm thick are able to be stitched on most *domestic sewing machines.  A size 14 top-stitching or leather needle is recommended.

Please note: vegetable-tanned leather is not stable in water. It tends to discolor if it becomes wet, and if left to soak and then dry, it may shrink and lose its supple feel.  As it is a natural product there may be some variations in the grain.

The leather is sourced from a Queensland tannery and custom cut for us from a single cow hide into straps.   This means that the length of the strap will vary slightly but be no less than 56"

Your strap will be supplied as either:

  • a continuous length of at least 56 inches,
  • OR 2 x 28" straps
  • plus  we will also send you a bonus scrap of leather to so you can practice stitching.
If you plan to use a long length for a cross body strap, please leave a comment requesting a continuous length at the checkout.

*I cannot guarantee that your particular machine will  be able to sew through these handles
